The cassava end-to-end smart project was initiated by the Agricultural Investment Directorate of Akwa Ibom State, and was commissioned by the Executive Governor, Pastor Umo Eno at Uruan LGA of Akwa Ibom State.. It is an innovative end-to-end smart project designed to revolutionize the cassava supply chain by leveraging cutting-edge technologies. The project aims to enhance traceability, transparency, and efficiency across the entire lifecycle of cassava production, processing, and distribution.

Key Components:

  1. Smart Farming Practices: Integrate IoT devices, sensors, and satellite technology to monitor and collect real-time data on soil conditions, weather patterns, and crop health. This ensures optimal cultivation practices, leading to improved yield and quality.
  2. Blockchain-Based Traceability: Implement a blockchain-powered system to create an immutable and transparent ledger of every transaction and activity within the cassava supply chain. This ensures traceability from farm to fork, providing consumers and stakeholders with verifiable information about the cassava’s origin and journey.
  3. Mobile Applications for Farmers: Develop user-friendly mobile applications for farmers, enabling them to access valuable insights, receive weather forecasts, and access educational resources. This empowers farmers with the knowledge and tools to make informed decisions for better crop management.
  4. Automated Processing Units: Integrate smart processing units equipped with IoT sensors to automate various stages of cassava processing. This includes sorting, peeling, and drying processes, reducing manual labor and ensuring consistent quality in the final cassava products.
  5. Supply Chain Analytics: Utilize big data analytics to extract actionable insights from the vast amount of data generated throughout the supply chain. This enables stakeholders to optimize logistics, predict demand, and enhance overall supply chain efficiency.
  6. Quality Control and Assurance: Implement machine learning algorithms to assess the quality of cassava products, identifying defects or impurities during processing. This ensures that only high-quality cassava products reach consumers, improving market competitiveness.
  7. Real-time Monitoring and Alerts: Deploy a centralized monitoring system that provides real-time alerts in case of anomalies or disruptions in the supply chain. This proactive approach allows for swift intervention, minimizing potential losses.

It is not just a technological advancement; it’s a holistic solution that fosters sustainability, empowers farmers, ensures food safety, and meets the growing demand for transparency in the agriculture sector. By seamlessly connecting various stakeholders in the cassava supply chain, this smart project contributes to the overall growth and resilience of the cassava industry.
